Welcome to Prydain’s collection of Cynefin activities for primary school. Each activity starts with a child’s real world: a familiar street, a place name, a school sign, a safe route or a memory shared by someone they trust.
What is cynefin? Cynefin is a Welsh word often used to describe a sense of belonging. It includes the people, experiences, language, history and landscape that help shape who we are. Every child can explore the places and connections that matter to them.

Questions parents and teachers ask
What age are these Cynefin activities for?
Most resources can be adapted from Reception through primary school. Younger children can draw and talk; older children can compare evidence, interview and write.
Do children need to speak Welsh?
No. Prydain activities welcome Welsh speakers, learners and non-Welsh-speaking families. Welsh words are an invitation to notice, ask and learn.
Can we use these without a class trip?
Yes. A school sign, family photograph, walk to school, view from a window or local map can all be meaningful starting points.
