Meet the woolly mammoth

A woolly mammoth was a giant furry relative of today's elephant that lived during the Ice Age.
It roamed cold, windy tundra and grassy steppe, where snow and ice covered the ground for long parts of the year.
Its thick fur, small ears, and layer of fat helped it stay warm in freezing weather.
Its giant curved tusks may have helped it sweep snow away so it could reach buried plants to eat.
