Meet the great auk

A great auk was a large black and white seabird that lived around the North Atlantic Ocean.
It could not fly in the air, but it was a powerful swimmer that used its short wings underwater.
A great auk looked a lot like a penguin, even though it was not closely related to penguins.
That happened because both birds lived a similar swimming life, so their bodies ended up looking alike.
