Morning light
came through the curtain.
Soft light.
Sleepy light.
Wake-up light.
One little nose
poked out of the blanket.
One little hand
poked out too.
The room was quiet.
The pillow was quiet.
The teddy was quiet.
Too quiet.
Something was missing.
Not the blanket.
Not the teddy.
Not the tiny toes.
The giggle was missing.
Where did my giggle go?
Tap the blanket to look for the giggle.
Tap once to lift the blanket. Tap again to hide the giggle.
The blanket lifted.
Slow.
Slow.
A little yellow face
popped up.
Not teddy.
Not toes.
A giggle.
A tiny, shiny giggle.
It went,
ha.
Then it hid again.
Oh no.
Where did my giggle go?
Was it in teddy’s ear?
One finger touched
teddy’s ear.
Teddy did not giggle.
Teddy only flopped.
Flop.
Was it behind the cushion?
One hand pushed
the cushion.
No giggle there.
Only a warm little dent.
Then something wiggled.
Not the blanket.
Not teddy.
The tummy.
Tap the tummy to wake the giggle.
Tap once to make the giggle bounce. Tap again to make it quiet.
One small hand
touched the tummy.
Nothing.
One small finger
touched again.
Wiggle.
The tummy moved.
Wiggle wiggle.
The giggle came out.
Ha.
Then another one.
Ha ha.
Then a big little one.
Ha ha ha.
The blanket shook.
The teddy flopped.
The pillow bounced.
The tiny toes kicked.
The giggle was not lost.
It was hiding
on the tummy.
Warm tummy.
Soft tummy.
Silly little
giggle tummy.
One last finger
gave one last tap.
Ha.
The room was quiet again.
But not too quiet.
The giggle sat
under the blanket,
waiting.
