The Puddle Boot Swap
A short sensory toddler story about yellow boots, wet grass, cold toes, big puddles and warm feet.
SPLISH.
One yellow boot
steps down.
SPLOSH.
One yellow boot
steps down.
“Boots on,” says Dad.
Boots on?
One boot here.
One boot there.
Wrong feet.
Wobble, wobble.
squelch, plop.
Down on the grass.
Wet grass.
Cold toes.
Tiny toes.
“Uh-oh,” says Dad.
A hand pulls
one yellow boot.
Pull, pull, pull.
Rubber squeaks.
Pull, pull, pull.
Boot comes off.
Bare toes wiggle.
Cold, cold grass.
Other boot now.
Pull, pull, pull.
Squeak, squeak—
Two boots off.
Two toes out.
squelch, plop.
Boots swap places.
Left boot.
Right boot.
Push, push, push.
Feet go in.
Stamp, stamp.
Better boots.
Big puddle waits.
SPLOSH.
SQUELCH.
PLOP.
Then inside.
Boots by the door.
Wet socks off.
Towel rubs toes.
Warm feet.
Soft feet.
Shhh.
