Story for Babies
On the rug lay a blanket.
Blue blanket.
Bumpy blanket.
Wiggle, wiggle.
Nina pointed.
“Blanket monster?”
The lump went rumble-tumble.
Nina patted the floor.
Pat, pat.
The blanket went shhh.
Nina crawled close.
Tiny hands.
Tiny knees.
The lump rolled left.
The lump rolled right.
Rumble-tumble, wiggle-wump!
Nina lifted one corner.
Just a sock.
She lifted another corner.
Just a paw.
A paw?
The blanket sneezed.
Achoo!
Out popped Pudding the puppy, ears flapping, tail thumping, wearing Mum’s spotty scarf.
“Woof!”
Nina clapped.
Pudding bounced.
The blanket slid down.
Soft blue heap.
Warm puppy nose.
Tiny lick.
Slurp.
Nina whispered, “Shhh.”
Pudding curled up.
Blanket over toes.
Thump, thump, sleepy tail.
Sleepy thought: Sometimes the wiggliest little monster is only a soft puppy ready to snuggle.
