The Yellow Hood and the Muddy Puddle
A rainy toddler story about a yellow hood, red boots, muddy puddles, wet hands and warm towel rubs.
PLIP.
PLOP.
Rain hits
the yellow hood.
Drip, drop.
Small knees bend.
Red boots stamp.
Stamp, stamp.
Wet path.
Cold air.
Mud by the gate.
Boot goes in.
Boot comes out.
Again.
Squish.
Schluck.
Rain runs down
the yellow hood.
Drip on nose.
Drip on chin.
“Splash?” says Dad.
Two boots wait.
One.
Two.
Jump.
Mud jumps up.
Water hits knees.
Coat goes wet.
Boots go brown.
Squish, squash.
Plip, plop.
Again?
Again.
Jump.
A leaf sticks
to one boot.
A worm line
sits in the mud.
Rain taps hood.
Hands clap wet.
Boots stamp slow.
Home now.
Step, squish.
Step, squish.
Door opens.
Warm hall.
Boots off.
Coat off.
Hood down.
Dry towel rubs
wet hair.
Soft head.
Shhh.
