The Kitchen Cupboard Band
A noisy little toddler story full of spoons, lids, tubs, clacks, tinks, thuds and one quiet biscuit.
CLACK.
The cupboard door
opens.
Small knees
on the floor.
One hand in.
One spoon out.
Clack-clack.
Wood on wood.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
A metal lid
rolls near toes.
Tink-tink.
Can you tap?
Tink-tink.
A plastic tub
falls down.
Mum says,
“Careful hands.”
Two spoons now.
Clack-clack.
Two lids now.
Tink-tink.
One tub now.
THUD.
THUD.
The cupboard floor
gets busy.
Spoons bang.
Lids ring.
Tubs bump.
Tink-tink.
Thud-thud-thud.
Louder now.
Tink-tink-tink!
THUD-THUD-THUD!
Mum’s slippers
step close.
Dog’s nose
sniffs in.
One spoon drops.
Clatter.
One lid spins.
Wobble-wobble.
Tink!
The tub tips.
THUD!
Then—
plop.
A biscuit lands
on the floor.
Still hands.
Still spoons.
Still lids.
Dog sniffs.
Baby looks.
Mum picks up
the biscuit.
Cupboard door
goes shut.
Soft hands.
Quiet floor.
Biscuit in hand.
Nibble, nibble.
Shhh.
